Sri Lanka certificate attestation in Dubai, with notary services for Sri Lankans
Many Sri Lankans in the UAE need two kinds of help with papers. The first is notary work here: a power of attorney so a brother or parent can act for you at home, an affidavit or declaration for the Sri Lanka embassy, a notarised true copy of a passport, or an NOC for a child. The second is Sri Lanka certificate attestation in Dubai, for O/L and A/L results, degrees and family certificates that UAE schools, employers and visa offices ask for.

What Sri Lankans in the UAE ask us to notarise
- A power of attorney for Sri Lanka. For a relative to sell or rent land, collect documents, deal with a bank or represent you in a family matter while you work here.
- An affidavit or declaration that the Sri Lanka embassy or an office at home asks you to sign, such as a statement that two spellings of your name belong to the same person.
- An affidavit of support when a parent visits you on a tourist visa. See affidavit of support.
- A notarised true copy of your passport, NIC or degree, when an office will not keep the original. See certified true copies.
- An NOC for a child, for example when a child travels with one parent. See NOC for a child visa.
A notary public checks your identity, watches you sign and applies the seal. That is what makes the paper usable in another office or country.
Step by step
Letting a relative in Sri Lanka act for you
Most of the Sri Lankan attestation steps happen in Sri Lanka, so someone there usually does them for you. There are two ways to give them authority.

An authority letter.
A short signed letter with a copy of your passport. Some offices accept this for collecting or submitting documents.

A power of attorney.
Needed when your relative will sign, sell or make decisions in your name. We notarise it here, MOFA attests it, and the Sri Lanka embassy or consulate in the UAE legalises it.

Sri Lanka certificate attestation in Dubai: who signs first
For a Sri Lankan certificate used in the UAE, the issuing office confirms it, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs authenticates it, the UAE embassy in Colombo stamps it, and MOFA in the UAE adds the final attestation. The first office depends on the document.

Use a recently issued certified copy of a birth or marriage certificate where you can, rather than an old family copy. The UAE embassy step happens in Colombo only.
Step by step
Sinhala and Tamil documents
A birth or marriage certificate issued only in Sinhala or Tamil cannot go to MOFA as it is. You have two ways to deal with it:

Translate in Sri Lanka
and have the translation authenticated with the certificate, so it carries the same stamps.

Translate in the UAE
after MOFA, with a legal translator, if the receiving office accepts that.

Family visa and school papers
A Sri Lankan husband sponsoring his wife needs the marriage certificate attested. For a child, the birth certificate, and often the marriage certificate too. Schools sometimes ask for O/L or A/L results for older students, so ask the school for its list in writing and attest only what it asks for. Frequently asked questions
Can I make a power of attorney for Sri Lanka without flying home?
Yes. You sign it before our notary in the UAE, in person, online or at home. MOFA then attests it and the Sri Lanka embassy or consulate in the UAE legalises it.
Do I need my O/L and A/L certificates attested for a school in Dubai?
Sometimes. It depends on the school and the grade the child is joining. Ask the school for its list in writing, then attest only what it asks for.
My marriage certificate is in Sinhala. Can MOFA attest it?
Not without a translation it accepts. MOFA handles Arabic and English papers, and anything else only with a certified translation. Decide first whether the translation will be done in Sri Lanka or in the UAE.
Can the Sri Lankan consulate in Dubai do the attestation for a UAE office?
No. For a certificate going to a UAE office, the foreign ministry and UAE embassy steps are done in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan mission here deals with documents going to Sri Lanka.
