Nepal certificate attestation in Dubai, with notary help for Nepali residents
Nepal certificate attestation in Dubai needs three things done in Nepal and one done here. The body that issued the certificate confirms it, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu attests it, and the UAE embassy in Kathmandu stamps it. Then MOFA in the UAE completes the attestation. We handle the MOFA stage and tell you exactly what must happen in Kathmandu.

MOFA in the UAE
Most Nepali residents are already working in the UAE when an employer or visa office asks for this. The Kathmandu steps are usually done by a family member, and that family member often needs a paper from you first: an authority letter or a power of attorney, signed here before a notary public. We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit notary services, so that paper can be ready quickly and correctly.
At a glance
- MOFA attests a foreign document after the issuing country’s foreign ministry and the UAE mission there have stamped it. Source: MOFA FAQ.
- In Nepal, the foreign ministry step is done by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu.
- The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, and Nepal does not appear in the HCCH status table either, so the embassy route is the only route. Source: HCCH status table.
- MOFA attests Arabic or English documents, or documents with a legally certified translation. Source: MOFA attestation service.
- MOFA charges AED 150 per personal document.
The first office for each Nepali document
SEE and higher secondary (plus two) results:
the National Examinations Board, or the board that issued older SLC certificates.
Bachelor’s and master’s degrees:
the university’s examination controller, for example at Tribhuvan University.
Birth, marriage and relationship certificates:
the ward or local registration office that recorded the event. Ask where the English version accepted by the foreign ministry is issued.
Police report:
Nepal Police headquarters. See police clearance attestation.
Experience letters:
the employer first. See experience certificate attestation.
If that first office is skipped, Kathmandu will not attest the paper.

Notary papers Nepali residents sign in the UAE
| Paper | Why you need it |
|---|---|
| Authority letter | Lets a family member take your certificates to the Kathmandu offices and the UAE embassy |
| Power of attorney | Lets a relative deal with land, a house, a bank or a family matter in Nepal. See power of attorney notarisation. |
| One and the same name affidavit | Your name is spelt differently on your passport and your certificates. See affidavits before a notary. |
| Certified true copy | Your passport, visa page or Emirates ID for an office in Nepal. See certified true copies. |
| NOC | A parent’s consent for a child’s visa or travel. See NOC for a child visa. |
Ask the Kathmandu offices whether they accept a family member with an authority letter before your relative goes. The notary public checks your identity, watches you sign and applies the seal. You can sign in person, by video through our online notary public services using the UAE remote notarisation channels such as the Ministry of Justice e-Notary system and UAE PASS, or at your accommodation with our home visit notary service. We tell you if your document can be done online.
Step by step
Nepali language certificates
Many Nepali civil records are in Nepali. Some offices issue an English version, and some certificates are bilingual. A document only in Nepali needs a translation that MOFA and the UAE office accept. Two options:
01
Get the English version or a certified English translation in Nepal, so it goes through the same stamps.
02
Have a legal translation made in the UAE after MOFA, if the receiving office allows it.
Before the document leaves you
Keep a colour scan of every page and every stamp. If the document is lost in transit, the scan shows exactly what must be redone. Give your family member the original, a copy of your passport and your notarised authority letter, and a written list of the offices in order.
The UAE embassy in Kathmandu
After Nepal’s foreign ministry, the document goes to the UAE embassy in Kathmandu. It cannot be done at the Nepal embassy in the UAE, which serves Nepali citizens here for their own consular needs. Papers signed here for use in Nepal go the other way: notary, then MOFA, then the Nepal embassy in the UAE if the office in Nepal asks.
Using the document in the UAE
- Job or work permit: a degree or school certificate. See degree attestation.
- Family visa: a marriage certificate and children’s birth certificates. See marriage certificate attestation for a family visa and birth certificate attestation.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can the Nepal embassy in Abu Dhabi attest my certificate for a UAE employer?
No. For UAE use, the attestation is done by Nepal’s foreign ministry in Kathmandu and the UAE embassy there, then MOFA here.
My family member in Nepal will go to the offices. What do they need?
The original document, a copy of your passport, and an authority letter from you. Some offices ask for more. We notarise the letter here and give your family member a written list before they go.
My marriage certificate is only in Nepali. Can MOFA still attest it?
Only with a translation it accepts. Get the English version in Nepal if the office offers one, or plan a certified translation.
How long does the Kathmandu part take?
It varies with the office and the season. Send us the document and call or WhatsApp us, and we tell you what to expect.
My name is spelt differently on my passport and certificate. Is that a problem?
It can stop a visa file. Swear a one and the same name affidavit before our notary public, and bring every document that shows the other spelling.
