Birth certificate attestation in Dubai, with parent NOCs and affidavits

A child’s birth certificate rarely travels alone. A visa office, school or airline may also want a copy on file, a consent letter from a parent, or a statement that links two spellings of a name. Attestation covers two situations. A child born abroad needs the foreign birth certificate attested so a UAE resident parent can sponsor the child’s residence visa or enrol the child in school. A child born in Dubai needs the UAE birth certificate attested so it can be used in the parents’ home country. The stamps go in opposite orders, so start by working out which one you have.

A notarised copy is useful for everyday requests. It does not replace the attested original for a residence visa.

A foreign birth certificate for a child’s visa

What visa offices usually look for:

Both parents named.

A short form certificate without the parents’ names may not prove the relationship. Order the full or long form version.

Names matching passports.

The child’s and both parents’ names should match their passports. If they do not, a name affidavit may help.

Registered, not just a hospital record.

A hospital birth notice is not a birth certificate. Use the registry certificate.

Late registration.

A certificate registered years after the birth can be questioned. Keep any supporting papers the registry gave you.

A Dubai birth certificate going abroad

For use abroad, the usual route is:

Birth certificates for school

Dubai schools often ask for the child’s birth certificate at admission, and some ask for it attested. If you are attesting it for the visa anyway, the same attested certificate usually serves the school too. See educational certificate attestation.

Can you notarise a parent NOC for my child’s visa?

Yes. Our in-house notary public services notarise parent NOCs and consent letters, in person, online or at your home. We draft the letter with you and the parent signs it before the notary.

What does birth certificate attestation in the UAE cost?

MOFA charges AED 150 per birth certificate. Our MOFA stage service starts from AED 150, and home country or embassy fees are added at cost.

My child was born in Dubai. Does the birth certificate need attestation for the UAE residence visa?

Not the foreign attestation chain, because it is a UAE document. It needs MOFA and an embassy stamp when it is used abroad.

The birth certificate does not show the father’s name. Is that a problem?

For sponsoring a child, usually yes. Ask the registry for a full certificate that names both parents, then attest that one.

Do I need a translation?

If the certificate is not in Arabic or English, yes, a legally certified translation. For a Dubai certificate going abroad, the home country may want its own language too.
