Notary services and Indian certificate attestation in UAE

Indian residents in the UAE usually need two kinds of help with papers. The first is notary work here: a power of attorney so a relative can sell or rent a flat in India, an affidavit that two spellings of a name belong to one person, a notarised copy of an Aadhaar or PAN card, or a parent’s NOC. We have in-house, in person notary public services, online notary public services and home visit notary services, so these are notarised in person, online or at your home.

MOFA in the UAE

The second is Indian certificate attestation in UAE terms: getting a degree, marriage certificate or birth certificate from India accepted by a UAE employer or visa office. That route runs through India first, then MOFA here. This page covers both, notary first.

Office open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. WhatsApp and online requests answered 24/7.

At a glance

  • A document signed in the UAE for use in India is notarised here, attested by MOFA, then by the Indian embassy or consulate in the UAE.
  • A certificate from India for use in the UAE goes through a state level check, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), a UAE mission in India, and then MOFA.
  • MOFA charges AED 150 for a personal document such as a degree or marriage certificate. Source: MOFA FAQ.
  • India issues apostilles, but the UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention, so an Indian apostille does not replace the UAE mission stamp. Source: HCCH status table.
  • A UAE power of attorney has no fixed statutory validity period. You set the period in the document.

Step by step

A power of attorney for property in India

This is the most common Indian notary file we see. The steps:

01

Agree the wording.

Your relative’s lawyer in India often sends a draft. We check it reads clearly and names the property and the powers given.

02

Sign before the notary.

In person, online where allowed, or at your home. Bring your passport and Emirates ID.

03

MOFA.

We submit the notarised power of attorney to MOFA.

04

Indian embassy or consulate in the UAE.

The Indian mission adds its stamp so the document can be used in India.

05

Send it home.

Ask the lawyer in India whether any further step is needed there before you post it.

Step by step

Certificates from India for use in the UAE

The order of stamps is fixed. If one is missing, the next office will not accept the paper.

01

State level check.

Most certificates are checked by an office in the state that issued them. Which office depends on the document and the state, so we check yours first.

02

MEA.

The Ministry of External Affairs in India attests the document.

03

UAE mission in India.

The UAE embassy in New Delhi or a UAE consulate in India adds its stamp. This step must happen in India.

04

MOFA in the UAE.

MOFA adds the final attestation. We submit the document for you.

If you are already in the UAE, a family member or representative in India can take the document through the first three steps, usually with an authority letter from you. We draft that letter, and we can notarise it if they ask for a notarised copy.

Three checks before an Indian file starts

Degrees.

Some UAE employers and licensing bodies want mark sheets or transcripts as well as the degree. Ask the receiving office before the papers go to India, so you do not send them twice. See degree attestation.

Marriage certificates.

For a spouse’s visa, the marriage certificate goes through the full chain. Check the names match the passports. See marriage certificate attestation for a UAE family visa.

Birth certificates.

A certificate without both parents’ names can be questioned by the visa office. Check it before attestation starts. See birth certificate attestation.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I sign a power of attorney for India without flying home?

Yes. We notarise it in the UAE, in person, online or at your home. It then goes to MOFA and the Indian embassy or consulate in the UAE before you send it to India.

Can I do Indian certificate attestation in UAE without going to India?

Partly. The state, MEA and UAE mission steps happen in India, so a family member or representative there must handle them. The MOFA step happens here, and we submit it for you.

Is an apostilled Indian certificate enough for Dubai?

No. The UAE is not a party to the Apostille Convention. An Indian document for the UAE needs the MEA attestation and the UAE mission stamp, then MOFA.

My name on the degree is spelled differently from my passport. What now?

Usually an affidavit before a notary public that both names belong to you. We draft it and notarise it.

Can you notarise a copy of my Aadhaar card?

Yes. Bring the original card, and the notary certifies that the copy matches it. Ask the receiving office in India whether it also wants MOFA and the Indian mission stamps.
