Indian certificate attestation in the UAE
Indian certificate attestation in the UAE has four stops for most documents: a state level check in India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi, a UAE mission in India, and last of all MOFA in the UAE. The first stop is the one that changes with the document and with the state that issued it, so that is where we start every Indian file.

MOFA in the UAE
Indian residents of the UAE usually meet this for a degree needed for a job or licence, a marriage certificate needed to sponsor a spouse, or a child’s birth certificate for a residence visa. The order of stamps is fixed. If one is missing, the next office will not accept the paper.

Many people search for “attestation dubai mea gov in” because the MEA website (mea.gov.in) describes its attestation service. The MEA accepts documents through authorised collection centres rather than over its own counter.
The UAE embassy or consulate in India
After the MEA stamp, the document goes to the UAE embassy in New Delhi or the UAE consulate in Mumbai. Searches for “dubai attestation in Mumbai” are really about this step. Which mission takes your document can depend on where you apply.
This step must happen in India. There is no office in Dubai or Abu Dhabi that can add the UAE embassy stamp to an Indian certificate. If you are already in the UAE, a family member or a representative in India can take the document through, usually with an authority letter from you. We prepare that letter.
Three Indian documents, three common problems
Degrees.
Some UAE employers and licensing bodies ask for the mark sheets or consolidated transcript as well as the degree. If you attest only the degree, you may have to send the transcripts back to India later. Ask the receiving office first. For the degree route in more detail, see degree attestation in Dubai.
Marriage certificates.
A marriage registered under Indian law with a civil registrar is the usual starting document. A certificate issued only by a place of worship may need to be registered first before the state will verify it. For the family visa side, see marriage certificate attestation for a UAE family visa.
Birth certificates.
A late registered birth certificate, or one without the parents’ names, can be questioned by the visa office. Check it shows both parents before the attestation starts. More on the child visa file on birth certificate attestation in Dubai.
Indian certificate attestation in Abu Dhabi and the other emirates
The chain does not change with the emirate you live in. An Indian certificate for a job in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah goes through the same four stops. Only the last one, MOFA, happens in the UAE, and MOFA serves every emirate.
Documents going the other way
A UAE document needed in India (a UAE birth certificate for an Indian passport, or a power of attorney signed here for property in India) follows a different route: MOFA first, then the Indian embassy or consulate in the UAE. Frequently asked questions
Can I do Indian certificate attestation in the UAE without going to India?
Partly. The state, MEA and UAE mission steps happen in India, so someone there must handle them. That can be a family member or a representative. The MOFA step happens here, and we take care of it.
Is an apostilled Indian certificate enough for Dubai?
No. The UAE never signed up to the apostille system and is not a party to it. An Indian document for the UAE needs the MEA attestation and the UAE mission stamp, then MOFA.
Do I need to attest my 10th and 12th certificates as well as my degree?
Only if the receiving office asks. Some licensing bodies want the full education record. Ask before the documents leave India.
How long does the Indian side take?
It depends on the state and the time of year. We give you a time once we know the state.
My name on the degree is spelled differently from my passport. What now?
