Syrian embassy attestation and Syrian documents in the UAE
Syrian embassy attestation can mean two different stamps, and the first job is to know which one your file needs. A Syrian document used in the UAE goes through the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, then the UAE embassy in Damascus, then MOFA in the UAE. A UAE document used in Syria goes the other way: MOFA first, then the Syrian embassy or consulate in the UAE.

Syrian papers are written in Arabic, so MOFA in the UAE reads them without a translation. For most Syrian families here, the real work is elsewhere: getting a freshly issued extract from an office in Syria when you cannot go yourself, and making sure the person who goes for you carries the right authority.

Getting Syrian documents issued from the UAE
Civil status extracts.
Births, marriages and family details come from the civil registry as extracts: an individual extract for one person and a family statement that lists the household. A relative in Syria can usually apply for a new one. UAE offices tend to want a recent extract, not a copy issued years ago.
University degrees.
The university certifies the degree and transcript, and the Ministry of Higher Education confirms them before the foreign ministry. See degree attestation in Dubai.
Secondary certificates.
School leaving certificates go through the Ministry of Education first.
Marriage.
Many Syrian marriages are concluded before a Sharia court and then entered in the civil registry. For a spouse visa, the registered marriage extract is usually the paper to attest, with the court contract kept ready if the office asks. See marriage certificate attestation for a UAE family visa.
Documents from other issuers.
Tell us which office issued your document before anything is paid. The route depends on the issuer, and a paper issued by an office other than a Syrian government ministry, or issued outside Syria, may follow a different path.
The relative who goes for you
Most Syrian files we see are carried through the ministries in Syria by a parent, brother or sister. Give them:
- the original document, or the details they need to request a new extract;
- a clear copy of your passport and your Emirates ID;
- an authority letter, or a power of attorney where the office asks for one.
Check the Arabic spelling of every name against the passport before your relative starts. The Latin spelling on your UAE visa comes from the passport, and a UAE office compares the two.
The UAE embassy step
The embassy stamp for a Syrian document is placed by the UAE embassy in Damascus, after the Syrian foreign ministry. Service hours, appointments and representative rules can change, so we check the current position before your relative goes. If this step is not available for your document, ask the UAE office that wants the document which route it accepts, before paying for other stamps.
Syrian consulate attestation in Dubai
People who search “syrian consulate attestation” usually need one of two services. The first is the legalisation of a UAE document after MOFA, for use in Syria. The second is a consular act for a Syrian citizen, most often a power of attorney that lets a relative sell property, handle an inheritance or collect documents in Syria.
A power of attorney for Syria can be made at the Syrian mission, or signed before a notary public in the UAE, attested by MOFA and then legalised by the Syrian mission. Frequently asked questions
Is “mofa syria” the same office as MOFA in the UAE?
No. The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stamps the document in Syria. MOFA in the UAE adds the final attestation after the UAE embassy in Damascus.
Can the Syrian consulate in Dubai attest my Syrian degree for a UAE job?
No. A degree for UAE use needs the Syrian ministries, the UAE embassy in Damascus and MOFA. The Syrian mission here handles documents going to Syria and services for Syrian citizens.
Do my Syrian certificates need translating?
Not for MOFA, because they are in Arabic. If a document also carries English text, the names in both scripts should match your passport.
My family extract is several years old. Can I still use it?
Often not. UAE offices usually want a recently issued extract, so ask your relative to request a new one before the chain starts.
