# Iran embassy attestation and Iranian documents in the UAE Iran embassy attestation covers two routes. An Iranian document for use in the UAE is legalised in Iran by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stamped by the UAE mission in Iran, and attested by MOFA in the UAE. A UAE document for use in Iran is attested by MOFA first and then legalised by the Iranian embassy in Abu Dhabi or the consulate general in Dubai. Documents are in Persian, and they are usually translated by an official translator in Iran before the ministry sees them. The translation, not only the original, then carries the stamps. For a degree this is the university and the ministry that oversees it; for a marriage it is the marriage registry office that recorded it. ### An official translator translates it. Official translators in Iran work under the Judiciary, and their translation carries their seal. ### The Judiciary and the foreign ministry confirm the translation. The translator's office usually sends the translation for these stamps. ### The UAE mission stamps the document. ### MOFA in the UAE adds the last attestation. Ask the translator to translate into English or Arabic for use in the UAE, and tell them which UAE office will read it. ## Iranian documents people attest most ### The identity booklet (shenasnameh). It is the Iranian record of birth, and later pages record marriage, divorce and children. For a child's visa or a spouse visa, the translation of the relevant pages is what usually goes through the chain. An Iranian marriage is recorded in a marriage deed (sanad-e ezdevaj) issued by a registered marriage office. It is fuller than the note in the shenasnameh and is the stronger document for a spouse visa. Degrees are confirmed by the ministry that oversees the university before the translation step: the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology for most universities, and the Ministry of Health for medical degrees. The certificate of no criminal record comes from an office of the Judiciary. The Iranian year starts at Nowruz in March, so one Iranian year covers parts of two Gregorian years, and a quick conversion can land in the wrong one. The official translation should give the Gregorian date. Put your passport next to the translation and check the birth date yourself before the Judiciary stamp goes on, since a stamped translation is hard to change. Spellings are the other common problem. Persian names have several Latin spellings, and the translator may choose a different one from your passport. Give the translator a passport copy and ask for the passport spelling of every name, including your father's name. ## The Iranian mission in the UAE Searches such as "iran embassy legalization charges" usually come from people with a UAE document going to Iran: a Dubai birth certificate for a child's Iranian record, a UAE degree, or a company paper. MOFA attests it first, then the Iranian mission legalises it. The Iranian mission sets its own charges, and we pass them on at cost after checking them for your document. No. A degree for UAE use is legalised in Iran and stamped by the UAE mission there, then MOFA attests it here.
