# Birth certificate attestation in Dubai, both directions Birth certificate attestation in Dubai covers two different situations. A child born abroad needs a foreign birth certificate attested so a UAE resident parent can sponsor the child's residence visa or enrol the child in school. A child born in Dubai needs the UAE birth certificate attested so it can be used in the parents' home country, for a passport, citizenship record or school. The stamps go in opposite orders, so start by working out which one you have. For a foreign certificate, MOFA is the last stamp. A short form certificate without parents' names may not prove the relationship. Order the full or long form version. ### Names matching passports. The child's and both parents' names should match their passports. ### Registered, not just a hospital record. A hospital birth notice is not a birth certificate. Use the registry certificate. ### Late registration. A certificate registered years after the birth can be questioned. Keep any supporting papers the registry gave you. For use abroad, the usual route is: The UAE birth certificate (and any translation the home country needs). MOFA attestation in the UAE. Legalisation at the home country's mission in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, where that country requires it. Some countries also want a translation into their own language.
